Abstract
Research activities on: a) the field of new trade teories, b) inclusion of new theoretic discoveries into the CGE models and their use for the assessment of the multilateral liberalization of world trade, regional economic integrations and current economic policy measures, c) use of the theory of monetary integration and optimal currency area for the study of the asimetric shocks occured during the process of monetary integration, d) the theory of internationalization and globalization and the study of effects on the developed and undeveloped countries, and e) the theories of regional development would certainly represent appropriate scientific basis for the use of the theories and developed methods in the framework of specific small open economy in transition and in the processes of approaching and inclusion into the EU and global trade and financial flows.
Inclusion into the European and world integrating processes is basically a structural problem; the economy is faced with the consequences of structural change in individual sectors (agriculture, industry, transport, financial services, energy sector, etc.) as well as the impact of those changes on other sectors, not to speak of the impact on macro-economic aggregates. Partial sector analyses cannot provide an evaluation of the more at the aggregate level nor at the level of individual sectors of the Slovene economy. Appropriate quantitative tools have to be devised that permit analysis of various areas of the economic policy.
Developed methodologies and model tools will thus be useful for the preparation of various analyses needed by parliament, several ministries, Bank of Slovenia, Chamber of Commerce and particular associations: a) assessment of the complex mutual effects of the transition process and the inclusion of Slovene economy into the European integration processes (particularly the inclusion into the EU and EMU) and into world processes of internationalisation and globalisation, b) simulation and analysis of the current economic policy measures, c) analysis of foreign trade flows, d) preparation of the up-to-date regional policy with the encouragement of innovation and adequate organisational framework which would enable economic development of the whole territory and adequate use of the structural funds from the EU budget.
