Abstract
Civic education is a process of transmitting knowledge, opinions and values. From the point of view of the youth this is a process of acquisition of knowledge and socially accepted values. It has been shown, by empirical research of civic education in Slovenia, that there is no substantial difference between the knowledge of Slovene students and the knowledge of students in other countries; yet some opinions and attitudes of Slovene students differ significantly from the students in other countries. The aim of the proposed research is to inquire into the reasons for this state of affairs, to develop conceptual framework which could help understand the phenomena, and to propose some strategies for possible improvement.
