Abstract
The research programme is focused on investigations of relations between growing conditions and the structure of wood, on the influence of mechanical wounding and air-pollution to wood quality and on wood processing properties and its end-use as a consequence of anatomic characteristics and chemical composition. Biology of wood deterioration and wood pests is studied with the aim to develop new, specific and environment friendly wood preservatives. In order to improve physical and mechanical properties of wood based materials and their environmental profiles, we investigate various materials and processes for wooden products. The primary aim of mechanical woodworking studies is elucidation of interactions between woodworking machines, tools and wooden work-pieces. Finally, wood production systems are analysed by contemporary methods, such as decision support systems and data analysis, taking into account organisational, marketing and ecological views of production and uses of wooden products.
