Abstract
The research program aim is to study the effectiveness of an athlete in monostructure, polystructure and conventional sports. The effectiveness of the athlete will be studied within three major aspects. The first is a biomechanical, which includes optimization and modeling techniques, identification of competitive performance and the associated measurement diagnostic procedures. Biomechanical optimization techniques will be analyzed in terms of morphological characteristics, basic and specific motor skills, kinematic and dynamic parameters, musculoskeletal performance and muscle -activity treatment. We will define the parameters of movement performance in cases which in the past has not yet been done. We will use the latest technology to diagnose and measure the parameters of movements such as 3D video-kinematic system, force platform, isokinetic splints, thermographic cameras, accelerometers, laser speedometer, programmed and non-programmed agility system, inertial dress for capturing 3D motion and surface electromyography telemetry. The second aspect will study link between physiological loads and overloads in the context of their health status as a prerequisite for success. Based on the method GNNS satellite technology we will evaluated the energy loss, power consumption and vibration during athlete’s locomotion. Derived parameters and designed software routines will enable us to monitor the load and overload of the most vulnerable segments of the body. The third research aspect will study the interaction of sporting achievements of athletes and national identity. We will investigate the role of sport and sporting successes of our athletes in shaping national consciousness and national identity, including via historical aspects.
Significance for science
The results of the research program will contribute to the development of sports science in the field of sports training, sports biomechanics, sports medicine, motor control and learning, expert modeling, new diagnostic procedures and technologies. Slovenia through sports science can continue with the trend of development of sport in all its forms and at the same time maintaining excellent results of athletes. The group will develop mainly applied science or basic science with a direct connection with solving the real technology and methodology training processes problems and increasing the efficiency of methods and means in terms of performance and humanization of work in sport. Exploring program group will take place in the research environment of the Institute of Kinesiology and the Institute of Sport within Faculty of Sport and laboratories that meet the highest international technological and research standards. Part of research will be carried out in interdisciplinary cooperation with some domestic and foreign institutions (Jozef Stefan Institute, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Mid Sweden University, the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre and Oestersund, Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, University of Middlesex, Faculty of Kinesiology and the Zagreb Faculty of Kinesiology Split). We are opening completely new areas of research of the real movement in relation with optimization and energy consumption, integrating the objectification of sport movements and functional loading of the locomotor system. The research will be based on the implementation of new knowledge and technologies in sports practice both in competitive sport, sport for health, as well as in school sports. Based on the results obtained, we believe that it will raise the quality level of professional athlete and athletes of younger age categories. Indirectly, this will result in higher social recognition and value of their results. In particular, outstanding achievements of athletes, in addition to financial - economic value of the high social, ethical and moral value for the visibility of the country and the development of its sports culture.
Significance for the country
Nowadays, sports activity is an important component of human existence in all stages of life. Sport plays an increasingly important economic, tourist, and health promotion role. Slovenian athletes are important ambassadors of the Slovenian state. Their results in the international arena have enormous power in shaping national identity. Particularly important is the identity of the young athletes, which may have a significant impact on their involvement in the sport. Indirect contribution to the positive educational impact on young people's education system has been repeatedly confirmed. Without the cooperation of the business world, such success would not be possible in high performance and mass sport. The share of economic products (services and products) related to sport strong increase in the overall socio-economic area. Sports activities are becoming one of the promising branches of the economic process in the future development. Therefore, the integration of the research program in the economic and socio-economic development is a priority task. We expect following effects: advisory work in the process of preparation of athletes, the quality of education at the undergraduate and postgraduate study programs in the Bologna process; effective training for professionals in the sport; the development of new diagnostic methods and technologies; the development of sport products (ELAN – ski’s vibrational characteristics, ENSICO- teaching sports equipment, fitness machines for the development of techniques and special motor skills, diagnostic measurement systems - isokinetic splints, force platform); sports and recreational programs that improve quality of life; the working efficiency and health, construction of safe skiing polygon; methods for estimating overload of locomotor system; the development of an expert system Ski jumping »Sport manager". We will continue to participate in some commercial projects with foreign partners - federations (International Gymnastics Federation - FIG gymnastics development tools, judging in real-time, International Ski Federation - FIS: the development of ski training machines).
