In terms of its programme, the research was in accordance with the international hydrological Unesco programme and EU research. The measurements of the experimental catchment of the Dragonja River enabled the inclusion into the European Network of Experimental and Representative Basins ERB. On the experimental catchment of the Dragonja, where three young researchers from the research group have performed their measurements (two had defended their doctoral thesis, a third one will obtain the PhD degree in Autumn 2004), there currently work several candidates for MSc or PhD from the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, and there is also a high preparedness for co-operation and research from other universities. The results are of a broad international hydrological significance. An international coding system of the Danube River has been proposed. The results of the research have been published in reports of international scientific meetings on protection agains natural disasters and hydrology and scientific monographs, as a result of NATO workshops. The one-year co-operation on the 5th framework EU programme "An European Flood Forecasting System - EFFS" has been successfully completed. Programmes of bilateral co-operation have been prepared with the CEMAGREF Institute, France, and USBR Agency, USA. The research programme transposes its results directly into the work of the International Research Association INTERPRAEVENT, which mainly directs its research into preventive care of the Alpine space against natural disasters and in so doing connects research with performative, planning and management spheres of the areas that are mutually responsible for the safety of people and their assets. In 2004, the association organized an annual international meeting in Riva del Garda, Italy. Dr. Matjaž Mikoš, president of the international research committee, has attended the meeting, where he presented the results achieved within the programme. A translation of a multilingual international hydrological dictionary into Slovenian was carried out, with more than 2000 synonyms added in Slovenian. The dictionary is to be found on the internet site of the International Association for Hydrological research. The results of the research programme are also presented in Acta hydrotechnica, a technical journal published by the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, which has been in the exchange programme with around 80 research institutions in Europe. The Editor-in-Charge and Technical Editor are members of the research group.
