Intensive work in the field of contrastive linguistics has benefitted from experts from Slovenia and abroad, yielding a number of significant insights in languages in contrast. Our basic areas of interest have included discourse analysis, pragmatics, vocabulary, and corpus-based language analysis. Most of our work has been done in the framework of functional linguistics and generative grammar. Given that most research has been done in both traditional and modern fields of linguistics (phonology, morphology, lexicology; translation studies, discourse analysis, language technologies), some of our research results are not really compatible, even though the results can be regarded as a tightly-knit whole, thanks to the uniform underlying methodology (monitoring language behaviour). A substantial part of our research has drawn on our supervisory work (BA dissertations, MA theses, PhD dissertations). Our publications and papers delivered at international conferences have highlighted our major achievements, notably in lexicography, comparative syntax of the Germanic and Slavic languages, text linguistics, subtitling, and last but not least language teaching methodology.
