Measurement and testing represent an important part of the European Research Area (ERA), and especially (MERA), Metrology European Research Area. Head of the program group participated as a member of the HLEG, (High Level Expert Group, DG-Research within the European Commission) in organisation of the European conference "Towards an integrated infrastructure for Measurements", as a part of ERA. That proves the importance of measurement and testing for science in a broader sense. In the EU-DG Research, Measurement and Testing Newsletter, the analysis of testing problems is presented in the article "Measurement and Testing needs in the candidate member states". The article is accessible at http://europa.eu.int/comm/research/fp5/eag.htm. Science in the field of metrology, related to thermometry and technical quality is present also in other research areas. Basic metrology as a generic scientific discipline requires continuous progress due to the progress of other sciences, technological progress and progress of society in general. With the results in the field of metrology FE-LMK proved its competence, which is obvious also from cooperation and coordination of international (EU) projects. Important achievements of FE-LMK are related to the original contributions in the field of analysis of the measurement uncertainty. In the field of thermometry FE-LMK actively participates in European intercomparisons and development of complex automated calibration systems. Data about FE-LMK calibration measurement capabilities are accessible on the website of the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) http://www.euromet.ie/data/documents/CMCStatus-20020915.xls In the field of technical quality FE-LMK contributed a lot to development of analysis of measurement uncertainty in testing, related to the testing of safety according to the EU directives, such as LVD (Low Voltage Directive) ann MID (Measurement Instrument Directive). Immediate result of our activities is coordination of the project INCOLAB. Results of the project will directly influence the free movement of electrotechnical products in the EU market.
