The first part of the programme Slovene terminology and historical dictionaries of the Slovene Language has been focused on the research of historical Slovene law terminology, theatre, mountaineering and biological terminology, on the excerption of corpus materials, building of databases, and on semantic, stylistic and linguistic analyses of terms to be included as dictionary entries in explanatory, normative, multilingual specialist dictionaries. In 2002 a normative, explanatory dictionary of mountaineering terms in five languages was published. The terminology of each specialist domain has been discussed in commissions whose members are field specialists and lexicographers. In this way terminology may be promptly verified, and during the dictionary-making process it is simultaneously transferred into specialist publications, schoolbooks, teaching processes. In the preparation of a dictionary lexical gaps have been identified and new terms have been created to fill them. The focus was on the following topics: the translation of foreign terminology into Slovene in the past and in the present, the computer-aided preparation of a dictionary database and of terminological dictionaries, the role of terminography in planning and development of language in specialist areas, words of international currency and Slovene words in terminology, the listing of entries in a terminological dictionary, the position and the role of Slovene terminology and terminography, terminological dictionaries and globalization. A theoretical framework has been prepared for a software application to be used in excerption of data sources and the compilation of dictionary material. The application has been tested and introduced into the process of dictionary-making. The quality of this application exceeds that of all previously known applications. The international meeting Terminology in globalization times was organized in 2003. It was attended by scientists from Slovenia, Russia, the Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria and Croatia. In the second part of the programme (i.e. the historical dictionaries of the Slovene language) the following results were achieved between 1999 and 2003: A complex dictionary concept for comprehensive, multilevel presentation of vocabulary used in books by the 16th century Slovene Protestant writers was devised. The concept was published in the Pilot fascicle of the dictionary of the 16th century Slovenian Protestant writers (Ljubljana 2001, 131 pp.). A detailed theoretical basis was prepared in order to register the entire vocabulary of the 16th century Slovene Protestant writers. The entries in this register will be accompanied by word-class and other necessary grammatical data, and the information on the sources will also be given. By the means of the study of excerpts and linguistic analyses it was possible to equip approximately 19,000 entries from four Dalmatin's works, among which is also the Bible of 1584 as the most extensive Protestant work, with grammatical and other data. - For the morphological presentation in the planned dictionary the inflected forms of several lexemes with abundant corpus material and morphologic complexity were separated. - The citation file containing approximately 3,169,000 index cards, collected from complete excerpts of Protestant works, is being organized. Approximately 700,000 excerpts from three rather voluminous Protestant works were alphabetized. - The results of historical lexicographic and lexicological research carried out by the programme group members were published in several papers and articles.
