Working in the research programme enabled us to cope with development of social sciences in observation, analysis, explanation and regulation of social phenomena, that in contemporary societies involve quality of life and its generators. This was carried out in two levels. - First was the level of international comparisons of the institutional environment of the quality of life (covering the welfare regime, pension system reforms, security in case of unemployment, reforms of rental housing sectors, developmental trends in NGOs, in social services and empowerment of users). These analyses allowed us to verify whether general trends are at work also in the case of Slovenia. Furthermore, we also examined the extent to which the trends, found in Slovenia, can be further generalised. - Second was the level of conceptual issues about quality of life and its indicators. We have developed a critical attitude towards some new understandings of social phenomena, for instance such as in case of "social cohesion". We have also taken part in an international endeavour to conceptualise "social quality" and develop its indicators in the European social context - through European Network for Social Quality
