Slovenia is a country without great natural resources such as oil. The progress is strongly based on the development of knowledge, infrastructure and information society in general. While industrial, agricultural and other classical sectors are important, one of the key aspects is the way Slovenia incorporates information services and activities. The relevance is not only in the sense of faster economical progress, there are also other aspects like better cooperation with other societies and countries and particularly integration into European Union. At the same time, introduction of information activities into Slovenia enable taking better care for national inheritance in the sense that e.g. better translation between languages is performed, huge information of Slovenian texts are gathered and stored in national digital libraries. Several of the new information activities change the way people live. For example, our employment agent was the first in the world to offer over 90% of all nationally available free jobs. It was also among most often visited national internet sites. We have also developed a system that speaks Slovenian. Today, all activities are moving towards computers (internet) and mobile phones. More and more of every-day activities can be performed using information services. Science stimulates progress either directly through prototype systems or indirectly by creating and upgrading existing knowledge. Information society is more cost and performance efficient, and helps inhabitants live better and compete or cooperate better in the modern world. Also, democracy can be greatly enhanced through information services, either by better informing or by other functions. We have cooperated in several prototypes of intelligent systems, published several articles in major scientific conferences and dissiminated knowledge in several under and post-graduate courses. It is fair to say that the influence of this research programme is among major influences regarding Slovenian information society through new ideas, comprehensions, activities, teaching, research prototypes and practical applications.
