The achievements of the research programme are important for the Slovenian science and technology, as it is important for the Slovenian society to keep and maintain a critical mass of researchers in the most propulsive disciplines of natural sciences. Among these, the physics of surfaces and nanostructures are certainly one of the most fastest developing fields, important for the new emerging nanotechnology. In view of the already mentioned scientific achievements, the research programme has indeed more than fulfilled these premises. We have successfully established an active and rapidly developing group that is very successful in not only following the latest developments in specific research fields, but also generates new and important ideas in this direction. Most important for the Slovenian science, the group has been very successful in developing new and original experimental techniques and attract young PhD students that will help to maintain the critical research mass in these rapidly developing fields in the future.
