Ad 1. The methods that were developed during archaeological research on the Dalmatian Islands were used in the field of protection and management of Slovene cultural heritage. Especially interesting results came from the use of quantitative methods for archaeological predictive models that enable production of so-called maps of sensitivity. New methods were applied on an archaeological predictive model when planning new highways in Slovenia. Ad 2. In the field of social and cultural anthropology we continue with promotion of a long-term participant observation in the field, that includes qualitative and quantitative methods. Years of fieldwork experiences in Papua New Guinea, the use of processual ethnography, comparative analysis, and theoretical awareness, have proved as significant for a critical reflection, interpretation and understanding of social reality in Slovenia; among most important topics are: discussions about identity, past, social change, contemporary myths and rituals, and breaking with stereotypes and constructs about "others". Our knowledge of medical anthropology was successfully applied to a new postgraduate programme "Comparative Studies of Ideas and Cultures" (Scientific Research Centre of the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts and Polytechnic Nova Gorica; the course will begin in October 2004) where medical anthropology represents one of four study fields. Ad 3. In archaeoastronomical research in Mesoamerica we focused on the development of rigorous methodological approaches and relevant field techniques that would provide the highest level of objectiveness in explaining the significance of astronomical orientations in architecture. We believe that systematic archaeoastronomical research should become a part of archaeological research practices in Slovenia.
