The research results contributed to the development of Slovenia as "knowledge-based" society. The findings on value education, on concepts of knowledge and teaching and some others were built into new curricula and other normative documents; the research showed that deregulation in the field of teaching methods and increased autonomy of teachers in this respect was too demanding and should be complemented with a greater professional support. Some other results and contributions: -The present solutions in the area of external differentiation and inclusion of children with special needs have opened some dilemmas that require further research attention. -The concept of teacher (including teacher trainers ) as reflective practitioner teacher including also teacher trainers has prepared the ground for competency-based teacher education and for renewal of corresponding programes in higher education, in terms of Bologna process. -Research results on discrepancies between goals, process and results in the secondary school have led to planning of changes (developmental projects). -Findings in the area of historical development of educational ideas are important in the view of maintaining continuity and strenthening national identit., -Study of school counselling has shown neccesary changes in the context of school reform, in terms of less individual and more "whole-school" approach. -The development of Slovenian terminology in the field of vocational education contributed to conceptual clarification and represents a solid basis for planning changes. -Studies on educational needs of adults have contributed to better planning of different forms of adult education, while innovative methods (biographic method, experiential learning, project learning) form a basis for a more effective and motivating adult education. -Development of some methodological aspects, like metaanalysis, forms a basis for syntheses of research results.
