Energy issues will most certainly decisively influence the Slovenian economic development. In addition to fast exploration of limited conventional energy resources, the pollution is one of the most serious problems of 21th century. National energy autonomy on macro level and autonomy of individual settlements and houses on micro level will significantly affect the socio-economic systems. Like world-wide, the problem of reliable, efficient and continuous green energy supply will become an important development factor in Slovenia. Introduction of natural green energy resources, development of photovoltaic and electronic devices suitable for Slovenian and international markets, possibility of implementation of high-end technologies following the national and European green strategies by introduction of renewable energy resources for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, are the indispensable segments of the technological development of Slovenia. The research group at the Laboratory of Semiconductor Devices has gained a lot of experience in modelling of electrical and optical properties and achieved a world-wide acknowledgement, which allows us to collaborate with leading international institutions in the field of solar cell and optoelectronic device research. Our research activities and knowledge dissemination can certainly contribute to the faster development of this particular sector in Slovenia. The research group members have been actively involved in the promotion of technical studies among the high-school (secondary school) population with the co-operation of the Technical museum of Slovenia in Bistra (Electrical Engineering Exhibition - "Dnevi elektrotehnike") and the Association for technical culture of Slovenia, among others. A lot of students have been encouraged to perform research activities. Our research group is part of the Technology Centre SEMTO and is actively involved in the MIDEM Society activitie
