Scientists involved in the research programme on engineering ceramics represent the leading group in the field of structural ceramics and ceramic technologies in Slovenia. Engineering ceramic materals are being used for a variety of applications to support a large number of advanced technologies. The research programme was built on the expertise and reputation of the research group and its traditional close links with domestic ceramic industries. In co-operation with industrial partners (Comet, Zreče, AET Tolmin, MS Production, Bled, Trimo, Trebnje, Zlatarna Celje), several new ceramic materials, products and technologies were developed and implemented contributing thereby to increased competitivness and word-vide repution of these industrial partners. This also allowed the domestic ceramic industry to strengthen links to foreign industries and to participate in the EC research projects. The research in ceramic processing and engineering ceramics is strongly linked to teaching activities at the University of Ljubljana. In addition to diploma-works and theses, this takes the form of classes to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. In 2003 co-workers of the Engineering Ceramics group were given a national (Zois) recognition for technological achievements.
