The programme brings one of the few investigations of the Slovene language properties in the framework of the generative linguistics theory. The findings on Slovene from the generative grammar perspective, and particularly from the point of view of its psycholinguistic assumptions, are therefore even more important as they also contribute to the development of the Slovene language theory. The findings on synonymity could stimulate the research in semantics, which is only rudimentarily represented in Slovenia at the moment. The theoretical findings and practical solutions of the synonymity problem constitute a solid basis for a future dictionary of synonyms, generated by the application of a computer assisted analysis of text corpora. With the application of discourse analysis methods to the Hittite language data, a new approach to the research of dead languages has been introduced, which has also contributed to the promotion of the Slovene linguistics in the world. The results of the research on language competence, communicative performance and communicative accommodation in language contact areas in Slovenia and in the neighbouring countries bring about important information for Slovene policy making in mixed regions. The findings on language policy and language education are of special importance for the future status planning of Slovene as well as for the management of ethnolinguistic relations in Slovenia, in its neighbourhood and in the European Union. Along with the principal research findings, new Slovene terminology emerged as one of important by-products of the research in comparative, general and classical linguistics. The research findings are currently integrated into the university study on undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which contributes to the enrichment of the Slovene university programmes.
