Research performed within this program allowed indirect but also direct transfer of knowledge and application of the results obtained with potential contribution and impact in several important segments of the sustainable development in Slovenia, technological development and in increasing the effectivness in some other areas such as biomedicine, environment protection, and preservation of natural and cultural heritage. Many results from our basic research in different fields involved, such as spectrometric detection (ICP-mass spectrometry and ICP-atomic emission spectrometry), the development of hyphenated systems and sensor development, were used to solve numerous analytical problems connected with samples from industrial processes, environmental control, farmaceutical and medicinal activities, etc. We exploited our expertise and the instrumental facilities to carry out applied research and to work out problem oriented tasks within the cooperation with several ten industrial and other partners in different areas such as cement production, motor oil trade and treatment, plastics, sealing materials, paints, electrotechnical materials, food and fodder, drinking, technological and waste water treatement, pharmaceutical production, etc. Research and development of new microsensors introduced possibilities for their application in diferent areas and we established cooperations with some groups and institutions in Slovenia for their use in cell physiology and neurophysiology studies. A large part of our work was devoted to the mentorship activities for supervising PhD students - young investigators and postdoctoral fellows and guests, which represents a valuable contribution to the education of highly specialized young scientists and researchers in Slovenia. A great importance of our work and activities within the research program in the past period should be ascribed to our interconnections and relations inside the Slovene sciens and research community. Within the frame of the research work done our group established a fruitful collaboration (joint publications, joint projects, etc.) with several research teams both inside the National Institute of Chemistry and outside it in Slovenia (e.g. from University of Ljubljana, Jozef Stefan Institute, Nova Gorica Polytechnic). Several other activities of the program team members have also been important such as consultancies to solve special analytical problems of our partners, organization of different meetings, schools and seminars (e. g. YISAC, Young Investigators' Seminar on Analytical Chemistry and International School of Ion Chromatography), etc.
