The research programme includes broad spectrum of activities, e.g., basic and applied research, and the education and tutoring of young researchers. Education The program is the basis for ceramic studies in Faculty for Natural science and Technology, University of Ljubljana. In last 5 years 8 students graduated, one student obtained her MSc., and three students made their PhD theses. In the scope of 5 FP EU the department gained the status of the educational "Marie Curie Training Site CERAMOS" centre in the filed of processing ceramics for students from EU. Multidisciplinary collaboration A large number of trans-institutional and international projects demonstrate an ability of the research group to collaborate and to connect with other research groups from different field, such as physics, chemistry or electronics and mechanical engineering. Besides these projects, the group is also involved in different collaboration, i.e. with Politehnika Nova Gorica, National Institute of Chemistry and with Faculty of Electrical Engineering University of Ljubljana. Collaboration with industry The research program is the basis for applied research projects .There is over 30 years long collaboration between the Electronic Ceramics Department (before Ceramic Department) at "Jožef Stefan" Institute, the HIPOT-R&D and the industrial partner HYBOT-HYB in the field of thick film technology , hybrid materials and structures. Other partners of Electronic Ceramics department were Keko Varicon, Žužemberk (multilayer varistors) and Mehanika Trbovlje (optimization of materials used for zinc-oxide varistors). Together with Iskraemeco, the research group collaborated in the filed of ferroelectric materials for sensors in the scope of EUREKA PIMET project and 5FP PIRAMID. Co-workers in research group are active members in the Centre of Technology SEMTO - modules, elements, materials, technologies and equipment. This Centre, which links companies from electro industry, two Universities and different research and development groups, is focused mainly on the research-development, consulting, education and on the information and promotion of the field of activity. Promotion In year 2000 the co-workers in research group organized international conference "Electroceramics" (7th International Conference on Electronic Ceramics and Their Application, chair: Prof. Dr. Marija Kosec). Each year they are members of administrative and editorial board of International Conference on Microelectronics, Devices and Materials - MIDEM. In the scope of EU activities in September 2003 in Bled, the research group organized symposium "Processing of Electroceramics".
