1.2For the development of Slovenia a) For the permanent socio-economic and cultural development The main substantial result of the SJM social survey is identification and analysis of social indicators for measuring some the most important social changes in Slovenia, and for making systematic comparisons with European and other countries. The main clients of these research results are: 1.Politics and public administration. The survey data provide empirical basis and theoretical background for the identification of relevant social and political problems, for the setting up political strategies and measures, and for informing the public about them. Political importance of research programme can be exemplified with the following topics: public attitudes toward public and political institutions (including EU and other international associations), the changing of elements of national identity, attitudes toward the reform of the welfare system etc. 2. General public and the media, who are informed about the results by means of press conferences, reports, articles, monographs and other publications, which analyze and present the results of the research programme. 3. Scientific community, researchers, who use our data in the course of their analytic and scientific work in various areas. With this group in mind, the SJM team had initiated the setting up of the Social Science data Archive at the Faculty of Social Sciences, where all SJM data sets are now available, along with many others. Important users of the data from our research programme are all lecturers and students who are interested in the dynamics of contemporary societies and methods of social science research. SJM data sets make a large share of the Archive collection, namely 183 units out of 427. Many of the SJM data sets, especially those which are part of cross-national surveys, are also kept of in the European network of archives CESSDA. b) for the technological advancement SJM programm responded to research questions which address social conditions of technological advancement and consequences of introducing of new technologies. The research focus was primarily given to the identification of value orientations which are supportive of social and especially technological advancements in Slovene society, and the willingness of the public to accept risks that technological advancement brings along. c) for strengthening of national identity and preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage SJM research programme also addressed questions of Slovene national identity and heritage. The team has systematically examined and analyzed two areas in particular: public attitudes toward Slovene recent and remote history, toward most important events in Slovene history and changes in Slovene national (self)consciousness in the period of Slovene accession to international connections. In the same time the programm SJM in itself contributed to the consolidation of Slovene national identity by informing the political and other publics on the comparative results. The ambition of the SJM programm is not only to study cultural change in Slovene society, but also to co-shape these changes by deepening and proliferating the knowledge about Slovene society.
