Investigations of our research group contribute to the central topics in the field of cellular and molecular biophysics in the world arena, as it is evident from the published works. This is important for the continuing scientific development in Slovenia. Basic scientific investigations in the topic of membrane biophysics are useful both for further scientific and professional development of biophysics and biomedicine, as well as of other scientific branches. The latter is evidenced by the results and published works, based on the scientific development within our research group and done in cooperation with other institutions. It is worth mentioning that our group has been colaborating both with associates from other departments inside Faculty of Medicine and with other departments within the University of Ljubljana and Jozef Stefan Institute. A special emphasis should be given to our collaboration with the Institute of Biochemistry, where we investigate a possible mechanism of drug transport using a synthetic peptide transportan, and to our collaboration with the Clinics for internal medicine, where the influence of antigenes on membrane properties are studied. Scientific research work in biophysics is also a prerequisite for maintaining the level of teaching biophysics to the students at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ljubljana. Finally, it is important that young graduates and junior researchers are introduced to research work in a group where they can certainly find a stimulative environment for further education and research.
