The majority of the research findings are important, both for Slovenia and internationally. However, some of the research findings are specific of Slovenia. This is particularly true for the findings referring to environmental protection and possible remediation of some endangered locations. The programme was also successfully implemented in relation with the scientific studies of the draft design regarding the possibilities of constructing an underground dump site for low- and medium-level radioactive waste in the Republic of Slovenia. The Velenje Coalmine supported the research into the domain of mining - i.e. the part concerning the interpretation of geotechnical measurements for the construction of underground facilities. The programme for project design and management of ventilation and air-conditioning was introduced in the Trbovlje-Hrastnik Mine. With reference to this Mine, one should also mention the application of a preventive shutdown method against the irruption of water. Some additional analyses were carried out within the programme concerning the construction of underground facilities in low-capacity and time-dependent rocks, which are to be found in some areas in Slovenia, especially in the wider region of Trojane. In this region the motorway facilities are under construction, with a two-tube tunnel as the most demanding project, since the construction takes place underneath an inhabited surface. Our construction engineers could also use the findings of the research into the magnetic field effect on the precipitation of calcium carbonate to produce more competitive products for wastewater treatment.
