Research in the programme is oriented towards the preparation and publication of fundamental lexicographic works (especially for standard Slovene and, to a limited extent, also for the compilation of dialectal materials collected by individual authors, as contrasted with the Dictionary of standard Slovene (SSKJ)) which do not yet exist for Slovene, but are nevertheless necessary reference works for general usage at all levels of education, for Slovene culture in general, for field-specialists and other groups. The interest for these findings can be observed in users of all style and register varieties of Slovene and in all developing branches of the economy. Only the combination of published dictionaries and of those that are in the process of compilation will enable an upgrade of specialist dictionaries. The electronic version of Slovene orthographic code has been published, and the following dictionaries are being compiled: the dictionary of newer Slovene words, synonymic, phraseological, valency and lemmatization dictionaries. Just as the findings of these studies published in articles and monographs, and, of course, in dictionary form, are interesting for Slovenes, they are also interesting (even more for some categories) for foreign users. Several specific features of Slovene, e.g. the preserved tonemes, morphological peculiarities (e.g. the existence of the dual and its usage), and archaic lexicon make it interesting for the study and development of linguistics in general (e.g. etymology, linguistic typology, etc.). The results (dictionaries and monographs in printed and electronic versions, as well as on the Internet) are furthermore of extreme importance in education at all levels, for continued development of language culture and for the increasing of national awareness in Slovenia. They are also very important for the development of linguistics at home and abroad (translation, computer recognition of human speech, the public use of Slovene, etc.).
