Results enabled an assessment of pressures on Slovenian coastal sea and its trophic status. Field work and modelling of the spreading of effluents from underwater sewage outfalls and from fish farms, and study of photochemical degradation of the organic pollutants in aqueous media contribute to adequate solutions of these problems in Slovenia. Research programme enabled apllied results such as: establishement of the Coastal Oceanographic Station consisting of moored buoy and sensors for continous measurements of several oceanographical and meteorological parameters; topographic inventory of biocenoses and conservation guidelines according to SPA protocol of the Barcelona Convention; assessment of the ecological status of sea impacted by effluent discharges; introduction of new monitoring techniques and participation in development of the Coordinated Adriatic Observing System.
