“46th International Symposium on High Performance Liquid Phase Separations and Related Techniques, HPLC 2017,” took place on Jeju Island, South Korea between 5th and 9th November 2017. The conference presented an opportunity for scientists to present their research work with colleagues, who shared their knowledge and experiences obtained during their career. Ester Heath presented reserach entitled “BPA and its alternatives in environment, food and biological fluids” as an invited lecture within IUPAC Session at HPLC 2017. The presentation included description of bisphenol alternative characteristics as well as their occurrence and cycling in different environmental and food compartments. In case of bisphenol A, also urinary BPA levels on Slovene national level and possible sources were proposed. Work also included presentation of developed and validated analytical methods for determining selected BPs in different matrices using solid phase extraction (SPE) procedure followed by GC and LC systems coupled to different mass spectrometry analysers. In addition, E. Heath and FWO promotor A. Covaci presented this project outcomes as following invited lectures: Ester Heath: Bisfenol A and its alternatives in relation to environment, food and health. B.04 Guest lecture
COBISS.SI-ID: 30944295Ester Heath has been since 2012 Editor in Environmental Science and Pollution Research (ESPR). She was also Editor of Special Issue in ESPR in 2016 (Fate and effects of anticancer drugs in the environment) and Springer book on cytostatic residues in the environment (2020). A.Covaci (copromotor at University of Antwerp) is Associated Editor for Science of the Total Environment and co-Editor-in-Chief for Environment International.
C.04 Editorial board of an international magazine
COBISS.SI-ID: 2640249The workshop will be organized in the frame of the EU H2020 Twinning project MassTwin and will consist of three independent, but interlinked pillars addressing environment, food, and health. The workshop will be open to MassTwin partners and other participants, where N1-0047 project consortium will be widely present and actively involved in workshop preparation and execution (Prof Covaci and Prof Heath are organising the workshop).
B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
COBISS.SI-ID: 31403047Ana Kovačič studied occurrence, fate and effects of bisphenol residues in aqueous environment, during wastewater treatment and migration from food contact material. In the framework of this project another PhD is taking place (David Škufca: Removal of contaminants of emerging concern in algal ponds, expected defence in October, 2021) and M.Sc. (Anja Vehar: Fate of bispheols during wastewater treatment.
