The previously developed GoMapMan web application (COBISS.SI-ID 2966607) has been upgraded to include the cacao plant, in addition to previously incorporated plants (Arabidopsis, potato, tomato, rice and tobacco). The connections within the application ease the interpretation of high-throughput data sets by means of knowledge transfer from model species to crops. Cacao represents an important crop species, also due to its popular product chocolate and various related health benefits. The extension of the GoMapMan gene ontology thus produced more accurate and relevant analyses of the most crucial processes involved in the production and accumulation of beneficial compounds in cacao. As such, the work done in this achievement boosted systems biology analyses for this crop plant.

In this paper we develop the HinMine framework for classification of nodes in a heterogeneous network. We use an approach that first decomposes the network into several homogeneous network using connections, induced by intermediary nodes. The homogeneous networks are then propositionalized and used for classification. To decompose the network, we used several heuristics, adapted from bag-of-words heuristics in text mining, to estimate the importance of each intermediary node.

This paper describes the development of TextFlows, a visual programming platform for text mining that supports construction, execution and sharing of text mining workflows. The usability and utility of the TextFlows platform is illustrated on a number of use cases: complex workflows for document acquisition and preprocessing, document classification using various stemming, lemmatization and part-of-speech methods, and the detection of outliers in text corpora.
