The main goal of the project was to ensure further research work on the development and maintenance of the databases and the work on already constructed dynamic model platform, which in the user friendly setting combines five modules. The research activities have an infrastructure nature and they provide solid basis for decisions of the economic policy makers regarding the long-term sustainability of the public system in circumstances of rapid population ageing. The improvements and added features were referring to development of 1) modified generational accounting model, 2) long term care model and 3) dynamic pension model. A special emphasis was on the development of user friendly interface so the model can be used by the final users.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1835662The analysis shows the weaknesses of the existing Slovenian health care system – excessive waiting times, losses and failure to promptly adopt novel approaches according to available best practices. In the future, we can expect pressure on increasing health care expenditures that will be largely a consequence of population ageing. Authors propose the introduction of so called benefit basket A and benefit basket B. The benefit basket A should cover the most urgent health care services and would be compulsory funded, without co payments. The Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia would act as the purchaser of services for the basket A, whereas the government (Ministry of Health) would act as the organizer of service providers. The services that are not of vital importance for preserving individuals’ health would form the benefit basket B. The size of this basket wold be determined by the state as a comprehensive insurance product. The state would also set the maximal premiums, whereas the actual premiums would be subject of a competition among insurance companies.

COBISS.SI-ID: 283958272We estimate broader economic effect of the investment in 3. development transportation axis on the section Šentrupert-Velenje-Slovenj Gradec. The 3. development transportation axis is the transportation link, linking north and south-east Slovenia. Broader economic effects are defined as long-term indirect economic effects that result from using transportation infrastructure by business entities. Thus, we have estimated the additional output that would be produced by the firms in Slovenia if the business sector had available a better transport infrastructure that primarily better connected firms from Koroška region with the rest of Slovenia. In the estimation of the economic effects we used a production function approach. We first had to extend the model by including transportation infrastructure as a separate production factor. As we assume that the production units are not randomly distributed across the country and that is why we cannot expect that observations are independent, we model spatial dependence and the resulting spillover effects. The estimates of the economic effects will be used as inputs for the cost benefit analysis that is performed to assess economically viability of the investment.
