Within the project we developed a novel method for automated planning of the pedicle screw size and insertion trajectory. The method removes / replaces the need for manual preoperative planning, which is time-consuming, technologically demanding (visualization, navigation and manipulation of 3D spine images), affected by the subjective interpretation of the observer (usually the surgeon that will perform the surgery) and with a steep learning curve. As such, the method has a marketing potential as a stand-alone application or a part of a general surgery planning software. We already have an agreement with a foreign company (Raylytic GmbH, Germany) for a potential integration of the method into their software for analysis of spine images.
F.21 Development of new health/diagnostic methods/procedures
Basing on the visibility of research achievements in the field of processing and analysis of medical spine images, the project leader Tomaž Vrtovec became a member of the organization committee of this international workshop (COBISS-ID 11707732, COBISS-ID 11964756 in COBISS-ID 12340052). The workshop proceedings were published as a volume in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science, published by Springer.
