Sexually transmitted infection (STI) with Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydial infections) is the most common bacterial STI in Slovenia. We estimated the proportion of laboratory confirmed cases in the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology (IMI) during 2007-2010 that was not reported to the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) to assess the completeness of reporting for the purpose of surveillance. The underreporting was estimated to be 65.1%. Surveillance data at the NIPH substantially underestimate the diagnosed chlamydia infection rates. The results will be triangulated with the results of the research project, self-reported incidence rates of chlamydial infection.
