This was a guest lecture at the Copernicus Graduate School in Poland, organized by the faculty as part of their high profile international summer school. Later, the lecture was rewritten as the chapter for the edited volume, published by Cambridge Scholars Press. The lecture was an opportunity to address the topic of common European history as well as present a region specific aspect of belonging in the EU.

The collection of chapters was written by the key scholars covering the interdisciplinary field of studies of patriotism. Since the publication, the handbook has received a wide recognition; group leader Ksenija Vidmar Horvat contributed a chapter on cosmopolitan patriotism - which currently is the second most cited chapter of the handbook.

Three members of the group were selected to write a paper on the topic from their particular angle of scholarly interest; in addition, two international contributors; as well as the interview of Lilie Chouliaraki with Zygmunt Bauman, organized on the occasion of the 2015 visit of the two in Slovenia by Vidmar Horvat, were included in this special issue. Because this is an international journal with the Publisher located in Slovenia, specific contribution is in dissemination of national scholarship on social contract to international audiences.

This is a classical reference in communication studies. With the translation of this book, the editors contributed an important scholarly source to be used in Slovene university programs and used by interested scholars in national debates.

The book was published in 2013 by Duke University Press. The book is a theoretically and philosophically challenging manuscript which demanded a detailed work on translation of concepts and attuning of arguments to the Slovene sociological language. The book has received praise from top ranking authors like Hardt, Balibar and influential public journals. The translation is valuable and on-time source for Slovene academic community.
