The exhibition reveals the archaeological heritage of the Knežak and Ilirska Bistrica areas as explored by the LiDAR data. In addition to well preserved architectural remains of the fortified settlements (hillforts), we recognized paths, different mound structures and linear boundaries. This seems to be a remarkable archaeological evidence of what we believe are elements of an unusually well preserved Iron Age cultural landscape. The research was very well accepted also in the local communit; in 2016 it is on display in the grammar school at Ilirska Bistrica.

COBISS.SI-ID: 9162336The monograph Ad Pirum (Hrušica) and Claustra Alpium Iuliarum is a result of intensive and thorough research into late Roman defence and controle system Claustra Alpium Iuliarum, which is extremely important for a picture of late Roman period at the eastern outskirts of Roman Italy. The monograph gives an overview and evaluation of available sources on previuos research (published and as yet not published), results of author's intensive fieldwork, evaluation of LIDAR data and ancient written soureces. It includes numerous photographs, plans and other illustrations. A translation in Italian appeared as a separate book: KOS, P., Ad Pirum (Hrušica) e i Claustra Alpium Iuliarum, (Vestnik, 26, 1). F.27 Contribution to preserving/protecting natural and cultural heritage
COBISS.SI-ID: 278920704The last two decades of archaeological investigation in Slovenia, much of which was of a rescue nature, have revealed numerous traces of Roman military activities, ranging from forts to small fragments of military equipment. Concurrently with field investigations, knowledge has also been gained from the study of previously recovered archaeological evidence, all of which sheds new light on events taking place on the territory of Slovenia at the end of prehistory and in the Roman period. New insights are now published in a monograph edited by J. Istenič, B. Laharnar and J. Horvat.

COBISS.SI-ID: 280118528The article was published in the National Geographic magazine, which is considered the most recognizable popular science publication with a wide circle of readers. The article presents prominent archaeological items from the prehistoric collection of the National museum of Slovenia. In addition to the famous Neanderthal flute from the Divje Babe site, Iron Age situla from Vače and Late Bronze Age appliqués made of gold sheet from Bled, a selection of the prehistoric objects of figural art, attire, pottery and weapons finds are presented. The contribution includes numerous high-quality photographs.
F.29 Contribution to the development of national cultural identity
COBISS.SI-ID: 8949344For the workshop, organized by IAEA in collaboration with the center C2RMF in Louvre (Paris) and IPANEMA in Saclay we prepared a contribution about the damage caused to the archaeological artefacts and objects of art during the analysis with ion beams. We estimated the modification of the object caused by the premeasurement surface preparation necessary to reach the bulk material. We further estimated the radiation damage in metals, paint layers and cellulose materials. We calculated the doses absorbed in the materials during short and during lengthy measurements required for elemental mapping and differential PIXE.
