This book by Bogo Grafenauer on the enthronement of the Dukes of Carinthia, which was published in 1952, remains to this day the most comprehensive monograph on the topic, which also contains the most complete list of sources and their most thorough critique. More than sixty years after its publication, this book remains topical and important, and should not be overlooked by anyone who wishes to scientifically examine the issue of the enthronement of the Dukes of Carinthia. The great volume of literature on the enthronement of the Dukes of Carinthia, which has been published in recent decades and which presents highly diverse opinions, points out, on the one hand, the great interest in this issue and, on the other hand, the still existing research problems and scientific discussion. It therefore seemed sensible to translate Grafenauer’s magnum opus, which was published in Slovene in 1952, into German, thus making it accessible to a wider scientific audience. This demanding translation and editorial project, led by academician dr. Peter Štih, lasted several years and was concluded on the centenary of Grafenauer’s birth. Hence, this book also presents a proper tribute to one of the most important Slovene historians of the second half of the 20th century.

COBISS.SI-ID: 287278336This is a comprehensive project that covers the history of fifteen Balkan countries from Turkey and Cyprus to Slovenia, and is mostly intended for teaching at secondary schools and universities. It consists of two books of texts, sources, photographs, maps, explanations of key words and terms, slogans and synthetic descriptions of events in individual periods. The materials were collected by tens of historians in all of the above-mentioned countries. Volume I (The Cold War) covers the period from 1944 to 1990, while Volume II (Wars, Divisions, Integration) covers the period from 1990 to 2008. The two books were prepared and for the most part also written by four editors; Božo Repe is the editor of Volume II, alongside Christine Koulouri.

COBISS.SI-ID: 62373986Environmental history of Alpine grasslands has received little attention. First, main types of archival sources for the environmental history of Eastern Alpine grasslands linking histories of grassland plants, soils, animals, people, water, weather and climate were presented. Results of archival analyses were divided into three parts: (1) Alpine grassland plant species/types in 16th and 17th-century archival records, (2) pasture and meadow management practices, and (3) nature-induced hazards in/related to meadows and pastures. The conclusion was drawn that despite the small year-to-year scale of the prevalent changes in agro-ecosystems of Eastern Alpine grasslands, they had important economic consequences thus were worth investments of money, time and energy of peasants and seigneurial officials. Lecture was attended by Viennese environmental historians (SEC IFF AAU; Univ. Wien; Wiener Stadt- und Landesarchiv) and well accepted.

COBISS.SI-ID: 63383650This programme group has noticed that a particularly burning issue of contemporary Slovene society is its attitude towards the past, the use (abuse) of history for political purposes, and its mythicising. For this reason, it has devoted special attention to this issue and will endeavour to shape and publish a more comprehensive account from various angles and for various periods until the end of the research period. It began with the panel “Slovene Sites of Memory”, at which theoretical historiographical premises were presented, as well as a few actual cases. Ten Slovene historians, who were researching select topics of Slovene historical remembrance, took part in the panel.

COBISS.SI-ID: 60581218A segment by France télévisions 3 on why the right to drinking water has been entered in the Slovene constitution. In the segment, Božo Repe explained the historical background behind the formation of Slovenia, the social processes that took place after its attainment of independence (denationalisation in kind, privatisation), and the historical and social reasons why Slovenes have a special attitude towards natural riches.
