The proceedings of the 35th symposium Obdobja brings an overview of the work of the late academic, Prof. Jože Toporišič. This work is multifaceted: it is partly based on the era and the linguistic thought to which he subscribed, and partly on the time and theoretical underpinnings of the present. The proceedings brings 64 papers in 11 sections. They are mostly connected to the exploration of language as well as Prof. Toporišič's efforts on popularizing the Slovenian language and linguistics.

COBISS.SI-ID: 286999296Marking its 10th anniversary, the Language Technologies Conference expanded into the field of digital humanities, which is elsewhere already an established field of interdisciplinary and collaborative research and has revolutionized established approaches in the humanities and encouraged the development of new analytical techniques and methods. The Slovenian cultural environment thus has a venue for presenting the achievements of different stakeholders in this field. The proceedings brings 58 papers from different fields, with language and linguistics playing the central roles.

COBISS.SI-ID: 286548224The textbook fills a significant void as it is the first handbook on translation technologies in Slovenia, whereas the lack of literature in this field is also characteristic in global terms. It comprises 12 chapters dealing with the essential fields of translation technology: translators' workbenches that are the core of modern translation, translation project management tools, quality assurance, terminology management, localization, audio-visual translation, and other tools.

COBISS.SI-ID: 287774464The lecture at the University of Cornell showcased the development of corpora of Slovene as well as the development of corpus linguistics in Slovenia. We emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary research within this framework and provided the example of inter-faculty cooperation at the University of Ljubljana as a potential framework of cooperation. Modern, digital linguistics is ever more redrawing the boundaries between the individual sub-fields, which has brought about an entirely new way of doing research in the humanities. Consequently, linguistic descriptions are no longer purely the domain of linguists, but all participants in the process: from the preparation of language resources and their analysis to their presentation in the digital environment.

COBISS.SI-ID: 62246242Given the recent substantial improvements of the quality of Machine Translation and the increasing demand for translations, post-editing of automatic translations is becoming a popular practice in the translation industry. It has been shown to enable the production of larger volumes of translations, saving both time and costs. The talk introduces basic concepts from the field of PEMT and presents the most popular post-editing scenarios and workflows. The profile and role of post-editors is also discussed. The importance of post-editing guidelines is emphasized and the impact of post-editing on a translation project and the people involved in is taken into account from the perspective of the effort invested and productivity gains achieved.
