The scientific symposium “Dolga zgodovina urbarjev” (“The Long History of Urbaria”) summarised and to some extent improved the new knowledge obtained from research in this area of historiography and archival science over the last few decades. It brought together researchers from different Slovenian institutions: Archives of the Republic of Slovenia, Regional Museum Maribor, Historical Archives Ptuj, Faculty of Arts, Ljubljana, and Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The symposium was accompanied by a thematic exhibition, which remained on view at different locations even long after the symposium.

COBISS.SI-ID: 83315201The paper discusses the geographical perceptions of the Slovenian soldiers on the eastern and Isonzo front during the First World War. The paper is based on concepts of military strategies and the discrepancies between these and the events on the front on one hand and the soldier's perceptions. The Slovenian soldiers described the Russian enemy and the vastness of the region with respect and with and extraordinary feeling about the nature. The war on the Isonzo front changed the perspective, as it was geographically near and represented a direct threat to their homes.
