Mobile phones with their widespread use among older adults provide new opportunities in the field of active and healthy ageing. In particular, poorly exploited integration of smartphones and assistive technologies may contribute to the active ageing. The paper outlines the field of assistive technologies on smartphones for older adults with an emphasis on the mobile health (m-health). We present key factors and barriers for the acceptance of m-services among older adults. An overview of the prevalence and description of the features of the so called smartphones launchers for older adults, which, with adapted user interface, provide older adults with more accessible and easier to use assistive technologies on smartphones, revealed a very limited availability of such applications, both in terms of adapted user interface as well as in terms of set of assistive technologies they provide. In conclusion, we highlight some guidelines for the future research of the acceptance and usability of smartphone applications and other e-services for active and healthy ageing. Finally, we present the outline of the iterative approach, facilitating active involvement of the end-user in all stages of the research and development process of selected e-services.

COBISS.SI-ID: 33575773In the first part of the chapter, we overview the main legal and ethical issues connected to the use of mobile phones, especially how the topic should be treated country by country, according to the different legislations and regulations. In the second part, we discuss some topics connected with coverage issues, such as territorial coverage, within household coverage and mobile-only coverage. In the third section, we discuss the main differences in non-response between fixed and mobile phones. In the last part of the chapter, we show how to combine fixed and mobile frames to minimize the impact of several of the discussed issues.

COBISS.SI-ID: 33542237On 17th September 2015, the event Web Survey Day took place for the fourth consecutive year. The event was attended by around 200 visitors (compared to around 300 previous year). Half of the participants were from the public sector, including education and research institutions, the rest were from businesses, non-profit organizations, students and others. The event consisted of two parts. In the morning session, Dr. Mario Callegaro, Google Inc., lectured on the future of online surveys, then, together with Dr. Katja Lozar Manfreda and dr. Vasja Vehovar presented the book Web Survey Methodology. In interactive sessions, participants posed questions on online surveys. In the afternoon, there were four parallel workshops: • 1KA for beginners (Nejc Berzelak, Marjana Vrh and Matej Kebe), where participants learn the basic steps of creating own questionnaire and implementing survey through 1KA; • Systematic review of 1KA’s functionalities (Gregor Čehovin and Miha Matjašič), where a quick overview of the basic 1KA functionalities was given; • Novelties and advanced functionalities of 1KA (Anže Sendelbah, Katja Zrim, Robert Šmalc and Barbara Brečko), where participants learn about innovations of the last year, including the functionalities that are being developed in collaboration with Arnes and the University of Ljubljana; • Own installation and own domain (dr. Vasja Vehovar, Peter Hrvatin and May Doušak), which was devoted to the technical aspects of own installation or domain.

With the result of the project, in 2015 we implemented new features and upgraded existing ones. Module to support telephone surveys and module of multiple languages surveys were additionally upgraded. Survey questions were upgraded with the image types and there were also implemented adjustments for mobile devices, resulting in collecting data more simple. From year 2007 dr. Vasja Vehovar has been developing a tool for online data collection – EnKlikAnketa or 1KA. The tool enables the user-friendly implementation of complex surveys and is not restricted only to web questionnaires but provides support for data entry, telephone surveys and mail surveys. The application is available at http://www.1ka.si (Slovenian version), while English version is available at http://english.1ka.si. The tool already has over 34.000 registered users and it has already been used for implementation of more than 68.000 surveys for different research purposes. 1KA is also integrated in the AAI identification system and is moving to public ARNES cloud, where broad and stable use will be possible.
F.12 Improvements to an existing service
The WebSM web site (www.websm.org) is the central international online source of web survey methodology information (i.e. data collection with web survey questionnaires). The website was established in 1998 and upgraded within EU 5th Framework program that has ended in 2005. The web site is still upgraded and updated. For the development of WebSM website Vasja Vehovar and Katja Lozar Manfreda have in 2009 got the "Warren J. Mitofsky Innovators Award" awarded by AAPOR (American Association for Public Opinion Research). In 2015 the WebSM web site was significantly updated with Web Survey Methodology supplements (Sage, 2015). Additionally, network analysis of co-authors in this research field were conducted in 2015.
