This paper we summarises Sorokin’s analysis of how historical society dealt with such a deep social crisis. Namely many events show that Western civilization is in a period of major crisis. Due to excessive individualism and subjectivism and a lack of common good, the dominant mode of thinking and acting are destructive nihilism and immanent narcissism. The author believes that these two ways of thinking cannot deliver a solution to the social crisis.

This chapter deals with the meaning and role of social entrepreneurship in the context of regional development in Slovenia. The main question is whether social entrepreneurship has an impact on development and innovation in Slovenian regions, and how this process is related to social capital. In doing so, the authors derive mainly from secondary data sources, both international (EVS, ESS, GEM) as well as national (official statistics).

This chapter deals with social capital from a certain perspective, that is, local social capital. However, before the analysis of what it is that characterizes local social capital and how it is being studied, it is necessary to relate to some of the contentious issues of social capital in general – as these are sometimes also reflected in local social capital.
