Andrej Mrvar (in cooperation with Vladimir Batagelj) developed the program package for large network analysis – Pajek. Pajek is used widely in scientific and nonscientific areas all around the world. Its usage increased significantly after the monograph on Pajek was published in 2005 by Cambridge University Press. In 2009 an expanded version of the monograph was published in Japanese, in 2011 was published the revised version and in 2012 the Chinese translation of the monograph was published. The authors obtained "The William D. Richards, Jr. Software Award" given by the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA) for the program package Pajek in 2013. The short explanation emphasizes: "The award recognizes software developers without whom we would not have the tools we need to undertake network analysis. This 2013 award highlights the breakthrough thinking behind Pajek in last 17 years. Pajek allowed us to visualize and explore large complex data and was the first software for networks with this design principle in mind."
