At the invitation of the Council of Europe a member from our research group takes part in the international expert group on Competences for Democratic Culture and Intercultural Dialogue (CDCID). The task of the expert group is to develop a Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture, to be adapted for use in primary and secondary schools and higher education and vocational training institutions throughout Europe as well as national curricula and teaching programmes. The document was completed in 2016 and describes a conceptual model of the competences which need to be acquired by learners if they are to participate effectively in a culture of democracy and live peacefully together with others in culturally diverse democratic societies. It is intended that the model will be used to inform educational decision making and planning, helping educational systems to be harnessed for the preparation of learners for life as competent democratic citizens. The executive summary has been so far translated into 14 languages; see http://www.coe.int/en/web/education/competences-for-democratic-culture

COBISS.SI-ID: 11318345Through the action research we define emerging approach of the flexible support in the lifeworld-oriented family support. Lifeworld-oriented support is a supplementary addition to conventional forms of family support, represented and reported on predominantly by representatives of educational and social welfare organisations. The fundamental innovation of this model is the focus on support in life space, when and where the family lives and needs support to cope with the daily challenges (education, training, exercise diverse rights and duties). Model is currently conducted within the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana as voluntary form of support for families, and also in cooperation with non-governmental organization, which also implements and develops this kind of support. F.23 Development of new system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
COBISS.SI-ID: 11411273A member of the programme group was invited by the organizing committee of the 13th international scientific conference operating under the title "Higher Education Reform" (http://dcu.ie/her2016) to give a plenary lecture. The theme of the conference was "Wider access, changing national demographics and international mass migration: implications for higher education reforms and policy". Keynote examined academic mobility and academic migration as centennial feature of academic life. From the once marginal phenomenon has become a mass phenomenon in modern times and brings problems of massive proportions. Mobility and migration are desirable as a flow of a highly skilled workforce for the growing markets of developed countries; however, to less developed countries they present the danger of brain drain. They bring a growing number of challenges: the recognition of qualifications, academic integration, costs of living, employment, immigration policy, etc. Since recently, the question of security comes to the fore: academic mobility and migration have become a threat, a threat that requires a change in current policies. The changes that we have witnessed in recent months, make a significant impact on higher education practices and raise serious challenges to existing institutional, national and supra-national policies.
