Monograph presents the approaches, methodologies and development of the indicator models for the evaluation of policies and their effects on different areas of the public sector. Thematic areas within the monograph are very diverse and range from the evaluation of policies and their effects on public and state administration, to the health system and specialized government agencies. Monograph and the findings within represent an important contribution to building a theoretical framework and a useful tool for professionals working in the field of evaluation, planning and implementation of various sectoral policies. In times of financial and economic crisis, policies are on the one hand facing tighter budgetary constraints, whilst on the other hand; they are facing rising public expectations, requiring thoughtful and targeted measures as well as long-term positive effects.

It highlights governance, accountability, creation of wealth/wellbeing, and implications policy choices have on nation states and citizens, acknowledging that public policy choice/execution is complex, has ramifications on the welfare of citizens, and that, despite national differences, the actions of nation states are constrained by policies determined by supranational bodies, some not directly accountable to any international body. COBISS.SI-ID: 3492526The added value of the monograph is in particular the presentation of analysis results, based on which systemic norm providing, organisational, other and individual measures as well as the manner of their implementation for the effective and efficient operation of considered authoritative bodies are identified and proposed. Upon this, the monograph, apart from being scientifically important, also represents the source of knowledge for Slovenian administrative discipline and practice. We believe it represents an important contribution to the modernisation and rationalisation of public administration operation and consequently the improvement of Slovenian international competitiveness, the increase in administrative quality, openness, and transparency, and simultaneously to the protection of traditional guarantees in public administration and towards it, which forms a good European-comparable administration. We believe that the present monograph will therefore constitute an important foundation for public policy holders and the wider scientific and professional public.

COBISS.SI-ID: 290014208The scientific monograph on European Administrative Space (EAS) offers in-depth analyses of the respective notions, such as those elaborated from systemic, methodological, geographical and contextual aspects. It includes 14 chapters from 21 prominent scholars and practitioners from different European countries (Belarus, Belgium, Croatia, Georgia, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden) and international organizations, some of which are the salient papers from the NISPAcee annual conference held in 2016 in Zagreb. Authors address the EAS as a complex concept in progress, both theoretically and practically. It is considered to be an important tool in the absence of a formal European Union (EU) acquis in the field of public administration, which leads to the necessary integration of EU values, goals, activities and methods to enable the EU political and macroeconomic goals and an effective and equitable implementation of its legal order. Consequently, this book contributes, based on the administrative science framework, as an integrative discipline, to the further evolution of the EAS and good public governance with democratic and efficient public administration worldwide.
