Members of the program team has participated in 2015 in the editorial boards of seven journals: Kristina Gruden in the editorial board of BMC plant biology, Frontiers in physiology, and Molecular genetics and genomics; Jana Žel in the editorial board of Food analytical methods; Nataša Mehle in the editorial board of Phytopathogenic mollicutes; Maja Ravnikar in teh editorial board of Journal of virological methods; and Marina Dermastia in the editorial board of National Geographic.
C.04 Editorial board of an international magazine
Marina Dermastia was a coordinator of the European project GRAFDEPI2 from the scheme EUPHRESCO, which was ended in 2015. During the project the partners from Slovenia, Italy and Austria developed a new accurate, reliable and cost-efficient protocol for diagnostics of 'Candidiatus Phytoplasma solani', a causal agent of the Bois noir grapevine yellows disease. A new protocol is also suitable for use on-site. Protocol was validated according to the EPPO recommendations and its performance was tested in ten European and one Australian laboratories. In the same test performance study a protocol developed during recently finished project VItisens from the scheme FP7 for specific detection of FDp phytopalsma was also included. In GRAFDEPI2 we also searched for new potential host plants of 'C. P. solani' and its potential insect vectors.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
COBISS.SI-ID: 3812175She studies molecular mechanisms of plant diseases and associated biotechnological applications. She is focused mainly on crops as potato and grapevine. She looks for resistance mechanisms of potato against viruses and studies interactions among potato, virus and Colorado potato beetle, which are more natural conditions. On the other hand she has also pioneered the studies of grapevine yellows diseases and phytopalsmas. Her research work is focused on the development of new methods that enable holistic approach to the biological problems. She is an iniciator of systems biology in Slovenia. In last seven years she has published 60 scientific papers and co-authored 14 chapters in scientific books. Her work has been cited over 1200-fold.
E.01 National awards
Excellence in science is a project of the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) for promoting science and increasing the global knowledge. In the frame of this action in 2015 the paper by Živa Ramšak and co-workers has been recognized as one of the most important achievements in the field of Biotechnology. In addition, Marina Dermastia was awarded during the same project for the most appealing presentation of the scientific work to the general public. She also received a Lapanje award of the Slovenian Biochemical Society for her presentation of scientific research to the public.
E.01 National awards
In the frame of the doctoral thesis of Jana Erjavec a Slovenian patent has been issued and application issued fro international patent. For her research Jana Erjavec was awarded by the Krka award 2015, and her doctoral thesis was recognized among the best theses at the National Institute of Biology in 2015.
