Novel technology for remediation of metal-contaminated soils/sediments is based on alkaline-substitution of toxic metals from chelate-complex, alkaline precipitation/separation of toxic metals hydroxides, acidic precipitation of chelate and electrochemical degradation of chelate complexes which remains in process solutions. Technology enables for chelate and process water recycling.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8321145More than 190 gardeners all over the LMR were asked to estimate their yearly production costs (seeds, seedling plants, fertilisers, plant protection etc.). By multiplying yield (1.9 kg/m2) of the five most common harvested vegetables and the average of their retail price we estimated that production was valued at 4 EUR/m2. By deducting the production cost (0.5 EUR/m2) from this value we estimated that the average gross margin for gardening production in the LMR was 3.5 EUR/m2. The expected economic impact of urban gardening on the vegetable supply chain in the city of Ljubljana expressed as gross margin of the areas currently dedicated for allotment gardens (45.89 ha) is 1,5 mio. Eur.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8279673At the end of the year 2015 new book Soils of Slovenia with 1:250 000 scale soil map was published in collaboration of Centre for soil and Environmental Science at Biotechnical faculty and European Commission, Joint Research Centre (Ispra, Italy). The book features an overview of soil forming factors, soil properties and spatial distribution of soil types in Slovenia with special focus on parent material which is, beside topography, the most important soil forming factor in Slovenia. The soil map is printed on 13 transparent sheets which cover topographic maps so as to facilitate the reader's orientation. The list of pedocartographic units with ranges of important soil properties, such as soil texture, pH and production potential of the soil expressed as soil value are given. For each pedocartographic unit of new map the list of pedocartographic units of original soil map in scale 1:25 000 are given as well. The history of soil mapping in Slovenia, soil classification system and soil information system is described. Some examples, on how to use soil information data for spatial planning, evaluation of agricultural land, prediction of vulnerability to drought or leaching of nitrates into aquifers, are presented.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8283769The invention relates to a batch process of remediation of soil and sediment contaminated with toxic metals. The process comprise the steps of treating contaminated soil and sediment with the solution containing aminopolycarboxylic chelating agent such as ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA), rinsing the soil/sediment solid phase to remove residues of mobilized toxic metals, treating the used process waters to recycle chelating agent and clean process solutions and placing the remediated soil/sediment on permeable horizontal reactive barrier to prevent emission of contaminants. Technology solves moderate efficiency of the alkaline part of the chelant recovery by introducing the alkaline adsorption of chelant released metals on polysaccharide materials.
