COBISS.SI-ID: 291064064The requirements for mobility and diversification of professional work in a global society, raise new challenges for higher education. In education for engineering professions in addition to the focus on content knowledge among key educational outcomes emphasized are professional skills. In this article we understand the professional skills defined by the American Acreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) as soft skills, including process oriented and awareness oriented skills. In focus of our interest are professional process oriented skills that promote development and career planning in the context of the opportunities brought about by modern communication technology, specifically social network sites. The process oriented skills include communication, teamwork in multidisciplinary groups, understanding of ethics and professionalism while getting use of social network sites becoming increasingly important. Expectations of employers to graduates competences within the employability competencies of graduates. In addition to hard competences the increasingly focus is on soft skills and competencies for career management. This is all the more important in times of uncertainty and rapid changes in the field of employment. Career management competences will also contribute to self-efficacy and long-term career success and have an impact on professional identity. The studies found that the area of career skills in online social networks had not received sufficient attention (Rutten, Ros Kuijpers, Kreijns, 2016). This paper deals with the role of social network sites in the initial professional development of students as part of practical training during their studies and career planning. At the core of treatment is illuminated role of online social networks when crossing boundaries between academic and professional contexts. The research questions are: What are the views of students to use of social network sites in the field of career competencies? How students use social network sites for career planning and practical training?

COBISS.SI-ID: 8103265In 2017 three Horizon 2020 EU projects were running in the research program. Their total budget was nearly seven million EUR and the budget for our Faculty over 700.000 EUR. Team members have important leading roles such as technical leadership and work-package leadership.
