E. Žagar was as an invited speaker invited to KAUST Research Conference: Polymers-Designing Macromolecules for Applications, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST, 5th- 7th February 2017), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. In this invited lecture, she presented the selected examples of her work on comprehensive characterization of complex macromolecular and supramolecular structures, which is extremely challenging since no single analytical technique provides adequate information regarding all the different distribution properties of such entities. In such cases, the use of hyphenated techniques such as the two-dimensional liquid chromatography and multi-detection system in combination with various size-separation techniques provides a more detailed insight into the complex polymer / supramolecular structures.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6112282"Integration of microporous nanocrystals into macroporous polymeric foams˝ lecture at the Center for Education and Research on Macromolecules (CERM), University of Liege (ULg), Belgium, 8. 12. 2017. The lecture was conducted during S. Kovačič visit at CERM, where he had participated as the external jury member and reviewer of the Kevin Mathieu PhD's thesis. Since the huge activity of the host laboratory is in the field of supercritical CO2, many people were interested in S. Kovačič work performed on functionalization of polymeric foams via a supercritical CO2 method.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6305818E. Žagar was invited to “2nd Danube Vltava Sava Polymer Meeting”. The conference was held from the 5th - 8th September 2017 in Vienna, Austria. The Danube Vltava Sava Polymer Meeting aims to bring together academic and industrial leaders in the field of polymer science in order to communicate their latest state-of-the-art findings in a multi-disciplinary environment. At this conference E. Žagar presented invited lecture with the title: »Assimetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation as a Tool for Characterization of Complex Macromolecular and Supramolecular Structures.«

COBISS.SI-ID: 6226970In the interview we presented general public the products from liquefied wood, such as polyurethane foams, adhesives with the addition of liquefied wood, as well as properties and advantages of these products. The main part of the interview was devoted to the presentation of nanocellulose. Nanocellulose is a renewable, sustainable material. The mechanical properties can be compared with those of kevlar. It is biodegradable and present in all lignocellulosic materials. The NCC has low density and due to the large number of reactive hydroxyl groups on the surface it is an excellent material for surface modifications. The patented production process is based on a liquefaction reaction in glycols. Beside the nanocellulose properties, we presented the possibilities of its isolation from various biomass sources, and its application fields as well.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6096154As an experienced coordinator of Central Europe past and current projects dr. Kržan was invited by the Programme to participate as a panelist at the Central Europe Programme 20 year anniversary conference, which was organized in Berlin, September 22-23, 2017, at the German federal ministry of transport and digital infrastructure. During the panel interview and discussion the PLASTiCE and BIOCOMPACK-CE projects were described with a focus on the goals and achievements and their importance for the program area. This was a perfect opportunity to present the concepts and our work to a broad audience since the event had live on-line coverage. In addition the Programme opened a new call for project proposals highlighting the newly introduced changes and the expectations/goals.
