In this presentation the synthesis, characterization and application of novel nontoxic, biodegradable and biocompatible polymer drug delivery carriers of different architecture based on various combinations of chitosan, synthetic polypeptides and dendritic polymers was presented, i.e. poly(esteramide) dendrimers synthesized from AB2 adduct of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl) propanoic acid and glycine, alkyl modified poly(sodium glutamates) synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of N-carboxyanhydrides and subsequent hydrophobic post-polymerization modification and chitosan-graft-poly(sodium L-glutamate), prepared by grafting the polypeptide grafts from chitosan backbone. Our goal was to prepare drug delivery systems with improved properties for delivery of poorly water-soluble low molecular weight active pharmaceutical ingredients in the form of solid dispersions or for oral delivery of high molecular weight protein/peptide drugs (biopharmaceuticals) in the form of nanoparticles prepared by polyelectrolyte complexation method.

COBISS.SI-ID: 5697562EU patent describes simplified method for the production of nanocellulose from natural cellulose containing materials. The procedure involves the use of different glycols and acid catalyst at low concentration. The product is a highly concentrated suspension of nanocellulose in organic solvent.

COBISS.SI-ID: 5668890As lead partner we delivered the final report (June 2015) on the project Innovative Value Chain Development for Sustainable Plastics in Central Europe (PLASTiCE, www.plastice.org) that was carried out within the Central Europe programme. The project focused on supporting bioplastics use in Central Europe. The project had 13 partners from 4 countries, a budget of 2,5 M Euro and a duration of 42 months (Apr. 2011 – Sep 2014). All project goals were achieved and 87 % budget was used (NIC 96 %).

L07 organized the MICRO 2015, Seminar on Microplastics Issues, Piran May 4-6, 2015 (Dr. Andrej Krzan was seminar chairman). In 6 sessions the seminar covered all aspects of microplastics (occurrence, characterization, biota effects, prevention) both in marine and freshwater environments. The event attracted more than 80 participants from 10 countries, with an emphasis on the Adriatic region. The program included 6 invited lectures, 17 oral contributions and a poster session. The Seminar continued on MICRO 2014 (Plouzane, France) and is continued in MICRO 2016 (Lanzarote, Spain).

COBISS.SI-ID: 13975835NIC (L07) is lead partner and dr. Andrej Krzan coordinator of the Derelict Fishing Gear Management System for the Adriatic Region (DeFishGear, www.defishgear.net) strategic project carried out within the IPA Adriatic Programme. The project has 16 partners from 7 countries, a budget of 5,3 M Euro and a duration of 35 months (Nov 2013 – Sep. 2016).
