The European project ROMEO (Replacement and Original Magnet Engineering Options) finished at the end of year 2015. The final task of the project was to design and make a prototype of two electric motors in collaboration with two co-operating partners, VALEO (FR) and SIEMENS (DE). Magnets were processed in Slovenia and finalized on a pilot scale in German factory Vacuumschmelze. In Valeo and Siemens they were embedded into the rotors of prototype electric motors. At the final meeting in Ljubljana we had a press conference, the results were presented on Slovenian TV and published in several journals. During the press conference the prototype was demonstarted.

COBISS.SI-ID: 29087527On the invitaion of the Editor we wrote a chapter in a book "Recent patents on material science". The main subject of the patent was that with a small simultaneous substitution of Si and Ge with iron we increased the cooling capacity of the alloy compared to the iron free one and additionally with the sophisticated thermal treatment we influenced the final microstructure and achieved both goals, high magnetocaloric effect and low hysteresis losses. The material is suitable as a working material for a magnetic refrigerator.

COBISS.SI-ID: 28642855We developed a new type of ZnO-based varistor ceramics with high coefficient of nonlinearity 40 without addition of Bi2O3 as standard dopant for I-U nonlinearity, which also results in formation of liquid phase at sintering temperature and is highly volatile. Hence, the use of ZnO varistor ceramics doped with small amounts of oxides of Ca, Co and Cr can have important advantage for preparation of varistors in comparison to use of classical varistor ceramics containing Bi2O3. The R&D results for the company are confidentila and are included in two expert's detailed reports.

COBISS.SI-ID: 29144615In the frame of European project ROMEO we invented a new method for the treatment of sintered magnets, which enabled topmost magnetic properties with drastic decrease of the amount of heavy rare-earths. The invention is based on electrophoretic deposition followed by grain boundary diffusion process. The achievement was explained by using of high resolution electron microscopy and the expertise of the members of the programme, who are involved also in another European project, ESTEEM2. This project enables the usage of transmission electron microscopes in the topmost European Microscopy Centres. The work was performed in Jülich, Vienna and Dresden. By using WDS we determined the chemical composition of the core-shell microstructure and with HRTEM we analyzed the thickness of the shell inside the bulk magnet.
