The ESCAPE series is a prominent European yearly event in the field of Computer Aided Process Engineering. Out of 406 contributions, prepared by authors from 47 countries (Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia), the ESCAPE 26 International Scientific Committee selected 176 oral presentations (7 being plenary lectures, 18 keynote lectures), and 230 poster presentations. The ESCAPE series is an excellent opportunity for young, motivated and innovative undergraduate students to enter the world of computer aided chemical engineering. It is also an opportunity to promote outstanding achievements of PhD students in this field. To recognize these achievements, the EFCE Excellence Award in Recognition of an Outstanding PhD Thesis on CAPE 2016 and the Award to the winners of the EURECHA Student Contest Problem Competition 2016 were given at the conference.
B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
COBISS.SI-ID: 1537028547In 2016, Matjaž Finšgar was entrusted with, managed, and executed an industrial project for the company Impol R in R d.o.o., Slovenska Bistrica, Slovenia. The subject of the project was the establishment of new electrochemical laboratory, and development and validation of new electrochemical methods for analysis of different materials.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
COBISS.SI-ID: 20074518The development of the systems optimization methodology for increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of companies (COBISS 19347990, 19878934) corresponds to the socio-economic objective '6 Industrial production and technology'. It contributes to the improvement of industrial production and technology and increases economic efficiency and competitiveness.
F.10 Improvements to an existing technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 19347990Developed procedure by authors L. Čuček and Z. Kravanja for the retrofitting of existing large-scale Total Sites (TS) for the purpose of energy consumption reduction and increasing energy efficiency was successfully applied on an existing refinery complex. Obtained results in analysed units showed significant savings: - maximum potential for energy savings was 48.7 % in average, - all profitable modifications showed 37.3 % energy savings in average, and – 15 modifications which are both feasible and profitable enabled 14 % of energy savings in average.
F.17 Transfer of existing technologies, know-how, methods and procedures into practice
COBISS.SI-ID: 19102486A new version of unique mixed-integer process synthesizer MipSyn v2016 has been developed. It is linked to new version of GAMS 24.7. It is adapted for the use on high performance servers for solving large scale synthesis problems. It exhibits high robustness which is a prerequisite for solving complex industrial problems.
F.23 Development of new system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
