Using our own developed 4-channel Alphasat beacon receiver station we are carrying out continuous measurements of satellite signal and analysis of signal attenuation due to atmospheric impairments. Obtained signal measurement and analysis results are in collaboration with the international European group ASAPE (Group of the AlphaSat Aldo Paraboni propagation Experimenters) contributed to the ITU-R database.

COBISS.SI-ID: 29273639An open sensor network testbed LOG-a-TEC, based on VESNA sensor platform, adopted all necessary common tools of the Fed4FIRE federation of testbeds, making individual clusters of nodes available as a service for remote experimentation. This testbed is one of the unique tools of the research programme and used for experimental research in the areas of radio environental charaterization and Internet of Things. In the last year we designed a new upgrade to the nodes that will support execution of more complex experiments. We also provided support for several new wireless technologies, particularly useful for the experimentation in the Internet of Things area. With the newly acquired H2020 project Fed4FIRE+, which kicked off in January 2017, we also joined with the LOG-a-TEC testbed the new European initiative NGI (Next Generation Internet).

COBISS.SI-ID: 29400103Open source tool for radio coverage calculation GRASS-RaPlaT originally developed for the Telekom Slovenije d.d. has been upgraded by a new GUI and new optimization algorithms. Modular approach of the GRASS-RaPlaT tool containing a set of radio propagation models enables optimisation of the heterogeneous wireless telecommunication networks consisting of cellular mobile systems (GSM, UMTS, LTE, LTE-a, WiMaX), wireless access points (WiFi), satellite telecommunication systems, telecommunication system for public protection and disaster relief, telecommunication system via stratospheric platforms and aerial platforms in the form of helium balloons/kites flying couple above the earth surface. The upgraded tool GRASS-RaPlaT was used, among other projects, also in the optimization of the frequency channel selection of digital VHF network for emergency units.

COBISS.SI-ID: 29252135During the past year, members of the programme group collaborated in several international projects and successfully concluded three among them, ESA-PECS SatProSi-Alpha, FP7 project CITI-SENSE and Cost Action IC1104. One of the results of participation in international projects is also the transfer of the expert knowledge and new scientific achievements to the national environment, which typically takes place through projects for the Slovenian companies and through professional workshops.
F.02 Acquisition of new scientific knowledge
COBISS.SI-ID: 30271527Several members of the programme group are habilitated at the Jozef Stefan Postgraduate School where they are lecturing and supervising students. They incorporate new knowledge, acquired in national and international research projects, in the individual courses and transfer it to postgraduate students trough teaching and supervising activities. In 2016, the student Kemal Alic completed doctoral disertation under the supervision of Aleš Švigelj and joined the program group.
