Domel d.o.o. is a world leading manufacturer of vacuum cleaner motors. A new diagnostic system for end quality control of the motors type 458, was developed. These motors feature the highest power efficiency among the vacuum cleaner motors at the time being thus ranking them on top of the market. The new diagnostic system is characterized by an improved set of manipulators, extended capabilities of power electronics, extended diagnostic procedures and real-time data-base connectivity to the corporate computer. Extended power electronics enables testing of all relevant vacuum cleaner motors for automotive applications, better control of manipulations enables 11% of increase of productivity, acoustic noise testing in transitions (run-up, shutdown) helps to reject motors with second-order deficiency, while real-time DB connectivity provides total control over every event on the diagnostic system (like change of diagnostic parameters), on-line supervision and storage of diagnostic results and automatic control of data flow from the production request to the final laser print on the error free units.

The accomplishment concerns the development of electronics and firmware for valve drives with sensors able to control temperatures, flows and thermal power under the constraints (e.g. the temperature differences and valve openings). An important component is anti-oscillation solutions in HVAC systems. The algorithm for flow control and filtering, based on flow pulse measurements, has been developed and implemented. Additionally, mathematical models of some HVAC elements have been developed. Based on simulation results, some modifications of the hydraulic control system were suggested in order to achieve more linear system response in different seasons. Therefore, the system oscillations, triggered by seasonal changes, have been reduced or eliminated.

COBISS.SI-ID: 28775207At the Industrial forum IRT 2010 (Innovation, Development and Technology) the award "TARAS statuette" promoting innovation, development and technological excellence was granted to the program group Systems and Control and to the company Danfoss d.o.o. for successful cooperation in the development of the new series of power valve-drives. The valve drives are designed for higher speeds and forces than the previous series, so they broaden up the application areas and possible markets. The developed valve drives feature the new anti-oscillation algorithms and adaptive velocity signal filtering, which is also patented. Our program group is the only double recipient of this award in Slovenia.
E.01 National awards
At the eighth international Technology Transfer Conference, which was held in Brdo pri Kranju, the international committee of six experts has awarded researchers from our program group with the first prize for the most innovative product ideas. The award was granted for the innovation entitled " ToPHM - Reliable cost Effective condition monitoring, prognostics and health management of rotational machines and drives".

Members of our program group contributed to the development of a 3 kW diesel powered fuel-cell based auxiliary power unit for transportation applications. Part of the work was carried out in the frame of the research program, and part within the 7FP project FCGEN. The problem addressed is how to overcome the main obstacle for widespread use of PEM fuel cell technologies, i.e. almost inexistent hydrogen infrastructure. The idea was to build a fuel cell system able to operate on conventional diesel fuel so that fuel is reformed first (in order to produce hydrogen) and then the resulting hydrogen is used in the standard way in fuel cell stack. Our contribution to this complex technology includes (i) the development of electrical power supply system, (ii) power converter, (iii) electronic control unit (ECU) and control software, and (iv) final system integration and successful demonstration. The accomplishment was reported in IEEE Spectrum, one of the leading journals in the field.
