COBISS.SI-ID: 6516762A synthetic process for the preparation of zeolite ZSM-5 granules without the use of an inert inorganic binder was patented with an industrial partner. The advantages of the process are green synthesis (without organic structure directing agents), which is also economically very favorable. The process is based on the preparation of a powdered amorphous sodium aluminosilicate gel with less than 5% crystallization seeds of ZSM-5 zeolite from which granules are prepared and which finally hydrothermal crystallize into highly crystalline ZSM-5 granules at a temperature of 180 °C. Amorphous aluminosilicate granules with sufficient mechanical strength were prepared in a process by mixing a powdered amorphous aluminosilicate gel with sodium aqueous glass acting as a pseudo-binding agent, e.g. an amorphous cheap silicon source which can bind together particles in the first step and subsequently convert during a hydrothermal transformation into the desired crystalline zeolite structure. Based on the initiative of the industrial partner, the validity of the patent will be extended this year.
