COBISS.SI-ID: 38564141After the Slovenian government passed the law that stipulated the inclusion of mentally healthy children with special needs into regular schools in 2000, the blind and other marginalized groups have gradually become recognized as a target audience of institutions other than schools, especially museums, galleries and libraries. Some of them have either prepared the exhibition on their history and heritage or have tried to make regular exhibitions accessible to them. The presentation at Blind Creations: an International Colloquium on Blindness and the Arts in London - international conference which explored the relationship between blind people and artistic creation - focused on the projects and practices of different actors from cultural sector in Slovenia (museums, galleries, social and cultural societies, actors from creative industries) which have managed to include the blind and partially blind into the activities primarily designed for the people without visual disabilities and which have succeeded to empower them for working in the field of culture, consequently improving their status in a society, alleviate prejudices and positively affect public opinion.
