The article is the central achievement of the research project. On the basis of different sources I explore the communicative relationship between the bell ringing and people. Through the analysis of media discourse, conversations with individuals (including priests and managers of the sound), i review the environmental and ecclesiastical legislation and regulations, perform empirical research among the inhabitants of the city of Ljubljana and interrogate the dynamic relations between sound and physical environment, socio cultural context and individuals . I reveal signal and symbolic presentation of bell ringing and its place in contemporary urban space.

This paper considers the situation in which the anticipation of a new sound within public space gives rise to political, social, and ideological debates. It demonstrates how the religious sound of ezan (Muslim call to prayer) caused public discomfort even prior to becoming a part of Ljubljana's soundscape, how the politics of power affected society and its religious sphere, and what kind of discourses take place in regard to the sounds associated with the Muslims in Slovenia. On the other hand this research is reaviling overall issue on religious sonority in public, private, urban or secular space that does not differ from the issues on the sounding of church bells.

The article comparatively discuss occurence and relation of media, inhibitants and policy to the three religious sounds in the city: muslim call to prayer, bell ringing of (progressive spiritual) church and Catholic church bell ringing. It unveils how sounds of different religious communities construct relationships or promote conflict socio-political relations. Potential and real changes in the acpoustic space provoke social and power relations in society, religion and politics.
